The Antikythera Shipwreck Exhibit
Dated to 60-50 BC, the shipwreck was found off the coast of Antikythera. The ship carried cargo dating from 4th to 1st century BC and was sailing towards Italy carrying among other cargo bronze and marble sculptures, glassware and jewellery, and amongst these the famous “Antikythera Mechanism”. The finds reflect the new phenomenon of art trade, the first in the history of Western civilization.
These marble sculptures have been severely eroded by stone-eating organisms of the sea, and only their parts trapped safely in the mud of the seabed have remained wonderfully intact.
Scarred and deformed, the half-destroyed sculptures now seem even more human. No longer serving as images of idealised beauty, their artistic quality has reached a new dimension, distorted by nature’s interference. Their image haunts you long after you’ve left them behind.
I’m sorry but I still can’t get over the fact that one of my very favourite actors sponsored me yesterday. And when I say ‘very favourite’ I mean in my TOP TWO. My non-Benedict favourite actor. That’s a hell of a lot of love right there. And HE SPONSORED ME. And I DIDN’T EVEN ASK HIM TO.

I LOVE HIS ‘OH YOU’ FACE

UM
CAN I JUST
THAT THING ABOUT HIM BEING WONDERFUL TO HIS FANS?
OH MY GOD
I looooove walking round London. I love walking and I love London, so… :P Think it’s about 9.2 miles, which is alright I guess. Would’ve gone further if I didn’t have to get down to the theatre by half 7! It is a lovely walk though, isn’t it? Sometimes I think people imagine London to be so terrifyingly massive that they HAVE to go on the tube everywhere. I used to have a friend who’d look at me like a freak for ever wanting to walk even the shortest distance. I really think people who don’t are missing out - the world’s beautiful if you actually look at it

Went on a pre-Hothouse walk from Paddington to Golder’s Green, via Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, Primrose Hill and Hampstead Heath. Love London <3

1. He makes sure that the picture will be what the fan wants. Her with her idol. He even admits that it’s not all about him - that when fans are meeting celebrities they want the celebrity to acknowledge them, not just the other way around.
2. In this video, Tom asks every single fan he takes a picture with what their name is. He doesn’t have to; he could just try and get through them as quick as possible. He knows they have been waiting to meet him for a long time and so makes it worthwhile.
3. He doesn’t have to say this. That’s why it’s so nice, because he didn’t have to say it. He may or may not know this will make her day, but the reasoning doesn’t matter. She is obviously nervous - it’s like he’s reminding her that he’s as normal and as human as she is.
4. By now he’s taken pictures with every fan there, signed anything they wanted him to and he’s being hurried, but despite this he wants to make sure that they all got what they wanted. Like before, he knows how long they’ve been waiting and it’s likely they won’t get this opportunity again.
5. These are his parting words to the fans there. You would expect them to thank him (which they do) for using up what little spare time he has, but instead he thanks them. It’s clear he knows that without his fans he wouldn’t be as successful as he is.
6. He winds down his window to wave goodbye to them, even though the man driving is eager to get him to where he needs to be. He looks happier than the fans receiving the gesture, like he revels in seeing other people happy. The main thing here and in the rest is that he doesn’t have to do things, but he still does. I think, aside from his astounding acting and looks, this is why he’s so popular. (video)
Awww. I’m not a Hiddles fangirl, but he’s obviously a lovely bloke. Bless him.
