Happy 80th Birthday, Thomas Stewart Baker! (January 20th, 1934)

"Not only don’t I know who I am, but I’m very suspicious of people who do know who they are. I am sometimes ten or twelve people a day, and sometimes four or five people an hour!"

@темы: tom baker

At first I thought ‘Ehhh, Strange isn’t ginger!’ but then I realised that he looks so awesome I don’t even care :D

@темы: jonathan strange and mr norrell, and we've had a photo of childermass too, bertie carvel, eddie marsan, NOW SOMEBODY BRING ME LASCELLES, so that's three of the four characters i most wanted to see

““But when the fairy sang the whole world listened to him. Stephen felt clouds pause in their passing; he felt sleeping hills shift and murmur; he felt cold mists dance. He understood for the first time that the world is not dumb at all, but merely waiting for someone to speak to it in a language it understands. In the fairy’s song the earth recognized the names by which it called itself.””

- Susanna Clarke, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

@темы: susanna clarke, jonathan strange and mr norrell, it's passages like this that made this my favourite book before i'd even finished reading it

today i met a christian guy who tries to follow the rules of the bible really good and i asked him if he is against gays because of Leviticus 20:13 and he told me no, he doesn’t because of Matthew 7

image

and he added that he would never judge anybody on their beliefs or way of living because only god can judge the people

this guy man

That would be *actual* Christianity for you.

I always wish peope could meet my friend Trey, a Christian priest who’s spent the last few years going round the USA setting up support groups for LGBTs being persecuted in their communities. He’s doing what Christianity actually teaches, not all the homophobic shit.

@темы: and then shut up, DO SOME STUDYING ON WHY JESUS CAME, for god's sake i have more christian gay friends than non-christian gay friends, i despair at christians who use bits of the old testament they clearly don't actually understand, in an attempt to validate their bigotry

"Tastes in acting, as in everything else, certainly vary, but a great Shakespearean performance is easy to spot. You know one when you see one, although it’s probably more accurate to say that you know one when you don’t see one: when the language no longer feels remote, when the humanity of the actor and the character seem indivisible, when the emotion being expressed is no longer veiled by poetic phrasing but revealed by it, creating a shock of recognition in your own heart."
