Despite being recently voted the world’s sexiest actor by film fans, Cumberbatch revealed even pop queen Madonna found him a bit odd when they met.

Explaining why he seems to be unlucky in love, the 37-year-old said: ‘It is harder [meeting women], because people think they know more about you than they actually do.

‘And you can’t control that… you can’t control perceptions of you.’

Recalling his run-in with the Madonna, 55, the Star Trek actor quipped: ‘She said, “You’re the one with the strange name”. I said, “Yes, I am, Madonna”.;

But he said he had little time for people who only see his oddities.

‘All the posh-baiting that goes on… it’s so predictable, so domestic, so dumb.

‘I’m an upper middle-class kid. I know that’s counted as posh, but then I know people who I would call posh, and I don’t talk like them,’ he told GQ magazine.

While he is best known for his lead role in BBC1’s Sherlock, which will return to our screens for a third series on January 1, Cumberbatch insisted he was no ‘one trick pony’.

‘I know that everything I do now will have flavours of “Sherlock”,’ he said.

‘Everyone wants those dark, complicated anti-heroes and, of course, I play them. But I also play Charles in August: Osage County, an everyman; he’s not super-sleuthing or cracking code or breaking algorithms.

‘I play Ford in 12 Years A Slave and Alexander in Stuart: A Life Backwards – he’s a pretty open book; smart man though he is, the complexity is all about Stuart,’ he said, going on to add about his roles: ‘I mix it up.’

Benedict Cumberbatch arrives at LAX, Nov 30 2013.

@темы: benedict cumberbatch, my edit, for the Hobbit premiere?

“Call me not lord; away out of my sight!

Ah, pardon me: grief makes me lunatic!

Let not that Mortimer protect my son;

More safety is there in a tiger’s jaws,

Than his embracements. Bear this [handkerchief] to the queen,

Wet with my tears, and dried again with sighs;

If with the sight thereof she be not mov’d,

Return it back and dip it in my blood.

Commend me to my son, and bid him rule

Better than I. Yet how have I transgress’d,

Unless it be with too much clemency?”

- Edward II, Christopher Marlowe (via of-your-etcetera)

@темы: john heffernan, edward ii, 'ahh you're a bit of an adrian scarborough fan are you?', (i mean i am a fan of adrian scarborough but let's be honest here...), heff's voice in my head, I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN, if i go to the archive and ask for this AND stoops they'll figure my motives out won't they?, JUST ONCE, like that time i saw after the dance and the habit of art on the same day, oh lord, PLEASE, sorry i've gone off on one again haven't i?, the whole thing, YES YES THAT'S EXACTLY IT YES *COUGH*

Although Martha is strong as well of course

Martha Jones: doctor, friend, sister, daughter, nerd, Harry Potter fan...

Remember that time Martha basically condemned herself to hell? When she did something she thought terrible, when she negotiated with the Daleks to try and save the earth? Because that was AWESOME

Martha 'cowering' in 42 is probably pushing it a bit, but hell if it wasn't a
terrifying situation

I suppose in a way, Martha's arc is sort
about how she doesn't need a man. Well, that particular man anyway.

The Doctor probably deserved to be ranted at

Two bits from Family Of Blood: Martha telling the Doctor she didn't mean it when she said she loved him (she did) and THAT ICONIC BIT

Again, this is pushing it a bit, but I think Martha did want validation from the Doctor in her early episodes

God I love the expression on her face in this scene

…and all of these things could exist in THE SAME WOMAN. [x]

Inspired by this and the other gifsets like it, because it occured to me that the woman whom all those traits existed in could very well be Martha Jones. (And many other women too, no doubt, but…MARTHA.)

Hit the gifs for some commentary!

everyone needs a waving snail on their blog

i feel that if I scroll past this and don’t reblog it the snail is going to look to the ground and cry

that comment

im sold

gotta do it now

@темы: i just can't have that snail crying it'd be terrible

Okayyyy, I’ve had three of these now so I guess I should stop putting it off (not because I don’t want to, I’m just not very imaginative!) and do it :P And because it will be Advent in half an hour and we put our tree up today, I’m making it CHRISTMAS THEMED. Oh yeah.

  1. The Snowman used to make me cry so much that my mum would bring me a towel instead of tissues…

  2. …but I didn’t cry at the bit everyone else cries at (when he melts at the end, yeah? That’s the ‘right’ bit to cry at?), I cried because he checks his parents are asleep before he leaves to go off with the Snowman and I was worried about how upset they’d be if they woke up and realised he wasn’t there. He really should’ve left a note. I was distraught for them, seriously.

  3. The Sussex Carol is my favourite carol, essentially because of this

  4. If it snows this Christmas I will make a HUGE thing of posting that THE SNOW HAS TURNED TO SLUSH and I’ll be ridiculously overexcited about it and I apologise in advance so please don’t be alarmed.

  5. I have a Christmas pudding hat:image

  6. One of my guilty pleasures is listening to Christmas music all year round (if I put this at number six right after the picture you won’t notice enough to judge me, will you?)

  7. I’ve wanted to go to the ballet at Christmas for as long as I can remember and I’ve never been so this year I’m treating myself and going to see The Nutcracker and I am SO EXCITED :D

  8. I spent every Saturday of my teenage years going to music school and every single year the most senior band played Sleigh Ride as the encore to the Christmas concert and I wanted to be in that band SO BADLY and eventually I made it :D And this is my final year there, 2005, with me on clarinet. Woooo!

  9. One of my favourite traditions is Claire’s Christmas Leftover Sandwich: bread, gravy, turkey, sausagemeat, stuffing, sausage, veg, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, more gravy, more bread. Perfect accompaniment to the Doctor Who special.

  10. When I was little I told my mum I wished it could be Christmas every day, and she said it couldn’t be because we’d run out of presents to give each other, and I replied ‘But I don’t care about that, I just like that people are nice to each other at Christmas.’ And that’s my thought for today. Be nice to each other :)
